If I had to name the single most common thing clients mention when they sit down, it is hair fall. And the honest answer is that a salon can help with some causes and absolutely cannot help with others. I would rather tell you that than sell you a package that will not work.

First: is it actually hair fall?

Losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is completely normal. Everybody sheds. What alarms people is seeing it collected — in the shower drain, on the brush, on the dupatta — because on wash day you are seeing three or four days of normal shedding at once.

Here is the distinction that matters most, and you can check it yourself:

  • Hair fall (shedding from the root) — look at the end of a fallen hair. If there is a small white or pale bulb, it came out from the follicle. That is genuine shedding.
  • Breakage (snapping mid-strand) — short broken pieces with no bulb, uneven lengths, lots of frizzy ends sticking up around your parting. This is damage, not loss, and it is the one a salon can genuinely fix.

In Lahore, a lot of what clients call hair fall turns out to be breakage. That is good news, because breakage is very treatable.

Why Lahore is hard on hair

  • Hard bore water. High mineral content leaves deposits on the hair and scalp, making hair rough, dull and brittle. It also strips colour and smoothing treatments quickly. This is the single biggest local factor.
  • Dust. Ferozepur Road dust settles on the scalp, which means more frequent washing, which means more drying out.
  • Heat. Months of high temperatures plus sun exposure dehydrate the hair.
  • Hot showers. Comforting in winter, terrible for the cuticle.
  • Tight hairstyles. Tight ponytails, tight buns and heavy extensions pull at the hairline. Traction hair loss along the temples is common and it creeps up slowly.
  • Heat styling with no protectant. Straightening dry, hard-water hair without protection is a reliable way to snap it.

What actually helps — honestly ranked

In the order I would spend money on them:

  1. 1 A shower filter, if you are on bore water. Cheapest intervention, biggest difference. It costs less than one salon treatment and it helps every single wash.
  2. 2 Sulphate-free shampoo and an actual conditioner. Most clients with breakage are using a harsh shampoo and skipping conditioner entirely.
  3. 3 A protein treatment or hair botox, if your hair is damaged or over-coloured. This rebuilds the weak points where hair snaps.
  4. 4 Scalp treatment, if your scalp is flaky, itchy or oily. A healthy scalp grows better hair. This is where hair spa earns its money.
  5. 5 Regular trims. Removing split ends stops splits travelling up the strand.
  6. 6 Loosening your hairstyles and changing your parting occasionally.
  7. 7 Heat protectant and lower heat settings.

What is largely a waste of money

  • One-off "hair fall treatment" packages promising to stop shedding in a single sitting. No topical salon treatment stops root-level shedding in one visit. Anyone promising that is selling you something.
  • Very heavy oiling left on for days. Oiling can be lovely for the scalp, but leaving heavy oil on for days in dusty weather clogs the scalp and makes flaking worse. A couple of hours before washing is plenty.
  • Rebonding or bleach on already-breaking hair. This makes it worse, and I will decline to do it.
  • Switching shampoo every three weeks because the last one "stopped working". Give anything two months.

One thing I will always say

If your shedding started suddenly, your parting is visibly widening, or you can see scalp where you could not before, please see a doctor before booking salon treatments. A blood test costs less than a treatment course and it finds the actual cause.

When it is medical, not cosmetic

These are the causes I see most often in clients who came to the salon first and eventually needed a doctor:

  • Iron deficiency. Extremely common in women here, and a classic cause of diffuse shedding.
  • Thyroid problems. Both under- and over-active thyroid cause hair loss.
  • Vitamin D deficiency. Also very common.
  • PCOS. Often comes with thinning at the crown and along the parting.
  • Postpartum shedding. Usually starts two to four months after delivery, can be dramatic, and normally recovers on its own by around a year. Frightening, but generally temporary.
  • After a fever, surgery, crash diet or major stress. Shedding shows up two to three months after the event, which is why people rarely connect the two.
  • Some medications.

A salon cannot fix any of those. What we can do is keep the hair you have healthy and make it look fuller while the medical side is being sorted — and that combination genuinely works well.

A simple routine that works for Lahore

  1. 1 Wash two or three times a week with a sulphate-free shampoo, focusing on the scalp.
  2. 2 Condition the mid-lengths and ends every single wash. Every one.
  3. 3 Rinse with the coolest water you can tolerate.
  4. 4 Oil the scalp lightly for one to two hours before washing, once a week — not for days.
  5. 5 Air-dry when you can. Heat protectant when you cannot.
  6. 6 Sleep on a satin pillowcase or with loose braided hair to cut friction.
  7. 7 Trim every 10 to 12 weeks.
  8. 8 A salon hair spa or protein treatment monthly if your hair is damaged; every couple of months for maintenance.

Come in and let us look at your scalp and the actual condition of your ends before you commit to anything. We are near Metro Gajumatta Station on Ferozepur Road, and a consultation costs you nothing. If I think you need a doctor rather than a treatment, I will say so.
